Someone actually said my blog posts are too long, which... I guess I can agree with. My "short and fast" entries always end up longer than planned. Today's will be short, promise- because whatever I've been sick with, it's not going away. Dimetapp, the cold and flu elixir, does not work. Someone from work has caught pneumonia and I conclude that I've caught the same thing from a look at the symptoms, but haven't had time to see a doctor, so it'll have to heal naturally. Unfortunately, being sick, my taste buds have gone crazy and refuse to taste properly, which is very woeful because eating no longer brings the usual joy =(

It's ok though- looking at it reminds me of the past pleasure food brought =) Now I understand how Kuroyanagi felt when he couldn't taste food (shame on you if you haven't watched Yakitate! Japan before.)

From Week 31-33, 2010
This was from many weeks back, when we were craving cheap but good food. Believe it or not, this beef noodle soup only cost $8.00, and it was freaking huge! You can tell the noodles were handmade because each strand has a different thickness. The soup was -too- good! It was the kind of chicken/beef stock with tomato in it that tastes so much like how my dad made good soup.

Tt's Ja Jiang Mien. Mine was better =D

From Week 31-33, 2010
Some dumplings from the same place, which is roughly translated to "Big North West". It's at China Town, just behind Market City, opposite Menya. It looks like one of those dodgy Chinese restaurants that cannot be trusted, but based on reliable sources, this place is guaranteed good and cheap.

From Week 31-33, 2010
Fast forwarding to a Sunday when I had work. This was at Makan Alice. I don't know why I went back there- the last time I went there with tt for their nasi lemak, we both didn't feel well afterwards. Must have been something wrong with their rendang. I was actually alone that afternoon and needed something to eat before work, and it was within walking distance....

From Week 31-33, 2010
Their barley water is good, but then you can't really go wrong with barley water... I wish my mum would make it in summer, but she never does so I guess this summer, I shall make my own! Mee Rebus wasn't all that great, it came in this tiny bowl. Full, no doubt, but they could at least put it in a bigger dish so it's not so messy to eat...and the cost? Atrociously expensive for something small like this.

The funny thing about eating alone, especially in a cafe or a lower end restaurant is that it's always interesting to observe the people around. So it was a little strange that I was there by myself when everyone else either had a partner or came in big families. It was a Sunday afternoon, so families do have lunch together (I hardly ever go out on weekends, so seeing families always give me a slight shock that's similar to cultural shock.)

This kind Malaysian lady with her Caucasian husband sat on the table next to me. She started talking to me about how the food here cannot compare with Malaysia's (I know! *nod nod*) and how if I wanted to make Mee Rebus, all I had to do was buy the paste, but she didn't want to tell me where to get it at the restaurant, so we exchanged phone numbers and she said she'll tell me when I call her.

She also disclosed some vital information about where I can get my hands on authentic Malaysian satay that don't cost too much. Not sure how accurate that info is, I shall have to check it out first.

From Week 31-33, 2010
Dairy Farmer's Thick and Creamy yoghurt is the best yoghurt I've ever tasted. Try the strawberry one- it's full of chunky strawberry that's just great to bite into. Unless you're the type who doesn't like chunky yoghurt. In which case.. shame on you! =P jk.

From Week 31-33, 2010
My dad's beautiful flowers at the front yard. He's got some sakura blossoms at the back yard too, but I haven't taken the time to snap a photo of it yet.

End of short post! (not very short....)

Even the eateries at flemington don't have beef noodle soup for $8 any more, so getting that in the city is pretty amazing.

What's wrong with long posts?....
